Nagauta, Kabuki music with Mariwo at an event in Tokyo

Today we played at a private Tanabata event (traditional fest) in Tokyo with Mariwo Fuka, Nagauta (kabuki song) singer with shamisen.

I'm not specialised for kabuki music (that means I generally don't have any chance to play those music except lessons) but with her I have a chance to play some excerpts these beautiful traditional works.

Generally we play nagauta with groupe. There are several singers and several shamisen players. But she does both alone, like some singers who sing playing the guitar. It is like she sing an aria from an opera playing the piano. It is not easy :-)

Now the Japan Expo is taking place in Paris. If you have attended the Japan Expo 2016-2017, you might have listened her beautiful voice and her cool shamisen playing đŸ˜‰ I hope she will come back again oneday.

I miss this moments with my students in Paris. It was very special moment just before the summer vacation. And it was also to let know this shinobue to people from everywhere in France. I hope I will come back very soon.

Some (European music) classical musicians sometime want to play Jazz music to change. But me I play Japanese traditional music. Actually Japanese traditional musicians also improvise a lot. It is as cool as Jazz music.

When I'll be back to Europe, my dream is organising a Japanese music seminar with Japanese instruments but also with European instruments and of course I let you sing in Japanese.
