Nozomi Kanda, Japanese flute player (Flute & Shinobue - Japanese flute) active in Europe and in Japan.
I write about my music activities and about Japanese traditional music
Some pictures from Saturday "Soirée Musicale Zen" with Gahô Takahashi from Paris @ Atelier de flute (BLA) where I give my lessons. Cosy and friendly evening.
I rewrote some music scores from the normal notation to the shinobue tablature. I can also play with the normal musical notation but strangely I feel more confortable to play with the shinobue notation even it is just a tablature. I think because this notation is not so detailed so that we can play more freely and approximatively which is good for this instrument.
I have been in Paris for my shinobue class and also I rehearsed with Gaho Takahashi for the concert on 25th November (by the way there are only 6 places left for this concert. If you are interested in, please book in advance)
One of the works we will play is Hoshun, composed by Katsutoshi Nagasawa in 1971, originally for shakuhachi & koto. I've played several times this piece but with European modern flute and this time I play with shinobue in G (3 bon choshi).
It is not easy to play contemporary works written for Japanese instruments in Europe because there are not so many players... and also those works are difficult to find for people who cannot read Japanese. Because everything is written in Japanese, even the website to buy scores....
I will keep playing those new (this work is written 50 years ago...) works outside of Japan. Then, one day maybe one of you will want to play even with European instruments. Why not?
Finally my third CD has just released by the Polish label DUX. I'm happy to recorded this special program :
Debussy Sonata for fl, viola & harp
Roussel Trio for fl, viola & cello
Huybrechts Sonatina for fl & viola Schulhoff Concertino for fl-piccolo, va & double bass
